B. 1982 Asian American Mixed Media Artist
Kai's art is an exploration of old mediums married with a modernist take on current compositions, origins of thought and emotions, and visual cues around us. She experiments with materials, techniques, and forms incorporating different elements to explore themes of primitivism, the state of being, and nature's spiritual balance in the modern global world. The juxtaposition between fiber, concrete, and paper is an example of crossing time while existing within one plane.
Prior to establishing her Austin art studio, she spent time in NYC as a co-creative director of the RTW line AIRA, a textiles researcher and designer for Ralph Lauren Men's Blue Label. She also worked at Comme des Garçons and 45rpm where she gained extensive education of the old Indigo hand-dyed traditions and eventually sets the foundation for her obsession crossing methods and time in her pieces.
